Embracing the Seasonal Shift š
Well hello again!
After a long summer break from writing, Iāve returned with renewed focusālargely thanks to diving deeper into the core accreditation in lifestyle medicine. This course is still a work in progress, but the key word is progress, and Iām embracing that.
Here in this beautiful corner of Scotland, the Harvest season is in full swing. Leaves are turning, falling, and the landscape is shifting. Itās a natural point in the calendar that mirrors a time of personal and collective change. As we move into Autumn and Winter, we begin to store, conserve, and reflectāa rhythm that invites us to adjust our routines and nurture our well-being.

Seasonal Shifts & Subtle Tweaks to Well-being
The Love You Ebb and Flow philosophy still holds true, but Autumn nudges us to make gentle changes. Hereās how:
š Sleep
If youāre a woman of a certain age, you might welcome the cooler nightsābut beware the darker mornings.
⢠Avoid social jet lag: Sleeping longer than your body needs in winter can disrupt your rhythm.
⢠Room temperature matters: Aim for around 18°C for optimal sleep. Resist the urge to over-layer, even when itās tempting.
š„ Nutrition
Autumn is a wonderful time to embrace plant diversity with warm, hearty meals.
⢠Think soups, stews, and seasonal veg.
⢠Aim for 30 plant-based foods per weekāand donāt forget herbs and spices to boost both flavour and your count.
š¶āāļø Physical Activity
Get outside while you can.
⢠Feel the crunch of leaves, notice the first frosts, and grab sunlight when it appears.
⢠Maintain the strength and stamina you built over summerāitās worth preserving.

š§ Mental Health
Dark nights and mornings can weigh heavy.
⢠Nature is your allyāembrace the light when you can.
⢠Cultivate soothing habits: curling up with a book, watching a film, games night or enjoy some rest time.
š¤ Relationships
Who are your people? Whoās your crew?
⢠Make plans to connect during the winter months.
⢠Whether itās a walk, a call, or a shared mealāintentional connection matters.

ā ļø Harms
Watch for the seasonal temptation to comfort eat or drink more than usual.
⢠Awareness is key.
⢠Embrace the seasonās change, but stay grounded in your values and goals.
As the Harvest reminds us, this is a time to gather, reflect, and prepare.
Love You: Letās unlock the harvester within and move into the colder months with intention, warmth, and care.
Love this analogy! Xx
